Assistant Manager – Operations
Overview:
This position will work on to manage projects and support the operations functions in key areas, such as railcar (Freight Wagons) procurement, maintenance and fleet inspection and upgrade.

1. Monitor and manage the Wagon manufacturing across various suppliers, and ensure that wagons are manufactured to the GIPL norms in a timely manner.
Interact with the suppliers, Sourcing, Production and QA team for end to end project management. Apprise GIPL team on regular basis about the project progress.
Manage processes for getting approvals from IR for various activities related to rake delivery, commissioning of rakes issue of speed certificates, prototype approvals etc. | 70% |
2. Carry out all field related work in connection with the safe operations, maintenance, and timely induction of rakes owned by GIPL. This includes physical inspections, attending the commissioning of the rakes and updating the rake history logs. | 20% |
3. Managing MIS/ record keeping for the operations function, like, Mechanical records, rake history, production status, rake delivery status. | 10% |
Interaction: This position requires interacting with Indian Railways, customers, suppliers, GIPL senior management, sales team and finance team.
Education and/or Experience Required (including certifications):
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required; Master’s in Business Administration preferred.
- Experience of interaction with Indian Railways
- Prior Freight Wagon experience is preferred.
- Experience in fabrication of steel products/heavy engineering structures preferred.
Key Competencies:
- Candidate should have good communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Candidate should be result oriented and accountable for work assigned to them.
Other:
- This position requires considerable amount of travel; sometime up to 70% of their time.
- This position requires candidate to visit wagon manufacturing plants.
- During field inspections climbing wagons will be required.
- Person should be able to lift 20 kg easily.
