Overview:

Position Purpose:  To provide consistently accurate repair estimates on all types of railcars.  These estimates must meet customer, regulatory and company standards including safety, quality and cost.

  1. Perform inbound and outbound inspections on various types of railroad cars and equipment.  Maintain Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and Association of American Railroads (AAR) certifications necessary to perform routine and non-periodic inspections.

  1. Prepare accurate and detailed estimates of all repairs necessary to meet customer, regulatory and company expectations in the repair and service of all types of railcars.  This is done utilizing established policies and procedures.

  1. Determine railroad and associated damage by preparation of Joint Inspection Certificate (JIC) and validation of results.

  1. Perform Non Destructive Examination (NDE) and prework activities in order to facilitate the inspection process.

  1. Complete all required documentation to ensure accurate billing and communication of completed repairs.

  1. Assist CSR’s, ME’s, Engineers as needed.

  1. Champion Shop Portal and participate in meetings.

Scope of Work: The individual filling this position will interact with customer service representatives, engineers, supervisors, quality managers and customers.  The primary area of impact for this position is the quality and monetary value of the repairs estimated and ensuring that the production needs of the facility are met.  The decisions made by this individual are within the stated requirements of documented repair guidelines prepared by regulatory agencies, railcar engineers and customers.  This position has no direct reports.

 

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience Required (including certifications):

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three (3) year railcar experience.
  • Certified in NDT Visual Testing, Level II – NDT-VT.
  • Extensive FRA, AAR and GATX specifications knowledge
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with the following systems:
    • MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
    • MMS
    • Shop Portal
    • ECM
    • MIS
    • SEM
    • SharePoint
    • Railinc

  • Must be able to stoop for extended periods and routinely move from kneeling to standing positions
  • Must be able to perform overhead work for extended periods
  • Must be able to lift (vertically) up to 85 pounds from the ground surface
  • Must be able to push / pull (horizontally ) up to 140 pounds
  • Must be able to climb ladders and perform work at elevated heights
  • Must be able to work in extreme temperature environments
  • Must be able to physically enter confined space (rail car manways as small as 18” in diameter) and work in enclosed environments
  • Must be able to sit/work in front of a computer for extended periods
  • Must be able to walk for extended periods of time
