Linux UNIX Administrator

Assist in the development of, maintain, and perform the hardware and supporting systems software-related processes required to meet the organizations information needs.  This includes maintenance and implementation of the technical architecture, as well as the performance of the day-to-day support of VMware/Linux/AIX based computing platforms and Job Scheduling systems.



  • Provide and coordinate VMware/Linux and AIX support for infrastructure hardware, operating systems, and systems application tool packages for Rail and Corporate so that issues are resolved according to the standards defined in the established service level agreements. This includes performing, monitoring, and/or managing the intake, diagnostic, prioritization, and resolution processes, as well as maintaining the appropriate level of communication with the client and other IT staff involved in the resolution of the issue. Provide Job scheduling monitoring and support.
  • Investigate and stay abreast of technical and practical industry information related to delivery of VMware/Linux and AIX operating system, hardware, and infrastructure services. Institute best practices as appropriate.
  • In conjunction with the Client Support, Business Application Deployment and Application Architecture groups, determine global hardware and software infrastructure requirements and specifications. Coordinate and perform the implementation of upgrades to operating systems, hardware, and system support application tools. Install, troubleshoot, and maintain all supported hardware and operating system software. Maintain hardware and software inventory via data entry into applied inventory application software. Perform tasks and projects as assigned.

Education and/or Experience Required:


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • 5+ years experience in systems administration and problem resolution within a Red Hat Linux environment required.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to build quick and effective work rapport with others and string teambuilding skills.
  • Must demonstrate strong customer focus, communication skills, ad a win-win approach to problem resolution.
  • Experience with Control-M or equivalent Job Scheduling software is a plus.
  • Experience with AIX Unix administration is a plus.
  • Experience with VMWare administration is a plus.
  • Must be able to work independently and lead a team.
