This position provides leadership, direction and management for the operation of the Railcar Cleaning and Purge Rack Department at the Service Centers. Additionally, this position will be responsible for compliance with all corporate and regulatory environmental policies regarding hazardous waste and water disposal.

  • Supervises the railcar cleaning and purge processes. Manage up to 20 hourly employees. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following: managing the budget for the Cleaning Department, including the purchase of supplies, materials and maintenance items necessary to support cleaning and purge activities. Responsible for creating cleaning car files, including work orders and cleaning confirmation forms. Coordinate and manage commodity off-loading, brokering and/or or customer returns. Perform training associated with railcar cleaning including, but not limited to, commodity hazards, cleaning recipes and cleaning procedures. Insures that all operations performed at the Cleaning and Purge facilities are completed in compliance with all applicable Environmental, Health and Safety regulations and policies.
  • Manage the hazardous materials and air emissions generated from the Cleaning processes. Analyze and classify waste appropriately. Disposal of material in compliance with OSHA and GATX mandated safety programs. Perform initial and tri-annual recertification audits of waste contractors.
  • Manage the wastewater treatment process to include all aspects (monitoring, treatment, and disposal).  Research alternative options of treatment to reach desired target levels.

Education and/or Experience Required (including certifications):

 

College degree with background in chemistry and/or environmental science.
Minimum of five years experience in Railcar Maintenance, Environmental and/or Safety is required.
Previous supervisory experience preferred.
