The Tax Analyst is responsible for international and domestic tax compliance including analysis, preparation and review.  This person supports the International group by helping with analysis of foreign earnings, taxes, tax accounting and transfer pricing and in completion of related compliance in connection with GATX foreign subsidiaries and joint ventures.  The analyst will prepare Domestic compliance in relation with GATX domestic subsidiaries. The analyst will start supervising work of tax accountants.   


  • Compile, analyze, and prepare U.S. tax reporting for foreign and domestic businesses including Forms 1120, 5471, 8858, 1065, 8865, 1042, 8832, etc. using Excel, SAP, and CorpTax.  The Analyst will interact with Business Units in soliciting information.  These duties include providing support in connection with audit inquiries by the IRS International Examiner. The work requires relevant technical knowledge, strong organizational, time management and communication skills.
  • Prepare Canadian income tax compliance, research and tax accounting. This work entails working cooperatively with the Canadian businesses in computing tax expense, researching Canadian tax questions, and preparing or reviewing Canadian income and withholding tax returns.
  • Compiling and analyzing foreign subsidiary and affiliate tax accounting quarterly in support of global tax accounting and financial reporting.
  • Prepare Domestic compliance (Federal and State) in relation with GATX domestic subsidiaries


The Tax Analyst will interact with senior analysts and managers from Corporate and Business Unit Accounting Departments, from Treasury and occasionally with other Staff Functions such as Financial Planning and Analysis, Internal Audit, HR, Law.  There will also be some contact with outside parties such as Joint Venture Partner accountants.



Education and/or Experience Required:


A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with 3 years of corporate income tax experience with a major corporation or public accounting firm.  Experience in analyzing tax expense and reserve accounts.  Working knowledge of Excel, Word and various tax research engines. Experience with tax provision and compliance software such as Corptax and BNA.  Excellent problem solving skills and experience with software support.


CPA and/or MST a plus but not required. 


Experience with Microsoft office suite applications, and CorpTax (or comparable) tax software required. 


Experience with SAP, Corptax, and/or BNA Tax Analyzer a plus.





Limited travel may be required (i.e., 1-2 weeks).


This is a hybrid position which will require the employee to work in the office at least 3 days a week throughout the year.  The employee may work remotely the balance of the time, apart from quarter and year end close when work is fully in-office.
