Position Purpose:
This role reports to the Director EHS & Sustainability and will primarily be responsible for safety risk management and compliance within the Rail North America rail car and locomotive maintenance network. The position will be responsible for the safety of our employees, contractors, visitors and the surrounding community in practice with our Responsible Care Management System (RCMS) and GATX Rail North American EHS objectives, targets and goals. The position will support the strategic reduction of safety risk via a proactive, cross-functional and continuous improvement approach. The position will also have direct responsibility for safety compliance and training within our facilities and for supporting EHS resources throughout the network.

Manage day-to-day, cross-functional safety risk reduction efforts including review of safety data reporting and safety data systems, standard work instruction (SWI) development, electronic safety inspections and observations, Toolbox Talk development & deployment, etc. Partner with Continuous Improvement and Facility & Maintenance Engineering to support with standardization. | 40% |
Maintain and continuously improve GATX safety programs, policies, and training content to achieve safety risk and compliance objectives. Monitor and implement industry advances to improve safety performance and compliance within our network. Partner with L&D to improve effectiveness and efficiency of safety training within the network. | 15% |
Provide on-site support within our maintenance facilities for internal EHS audits, projects, initiatives, training and EHS resource onboarding & development. | 20% |
Interaction: This position will interact with senior executives, facility leaders, functional leaders and shop floor employees throughout the GATX organization. It is an independent, cross-functional key position that contributes significant knowledge and influence to the GATX Operations group in order to achieve our defined initiatives.
This position will not have direct reports.
