Position Purpose:

This position performs repairs, changes, improvements, and conversions to car parts and assemblies such as underframe, trucks, insulation jackets, tanks and bodies of railroad cars.

 

This position will be 1st shift (6:00am - 2:30pm, Monday-Friday)

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities

  • Prepares equipment and surfaces, dismantles and rebuilds, as required, repair car parts such as trucks, jackets and insulation, and platforms.
  • Jack car, remove/replace/disassemble trucks to repair or gain access to parts needing repairs.
  • Remove, replace, straighten, renew or repair various car parts such as couplers, gears, safety appliances, insulation, and running boards as required to achieve proper repairs.
  • Perform minor preventative maintenance on tools and equipment used.
  • Ability to follow company's and customers safety policies and procedures at all times.
  • Able to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Basic computer knowledge and strong communication skills -- experience.
  • Communicate effectively and work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Communicate with supervisor as needed.
  • Keeps work area in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Comply with the established safety policies, support-continuing awareness for safety, and when possible recommend specific changes and improvements to health and safety policies and programs.

Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as IO instructions, FM instructions, work orders, and AAR Field Manual.
  • 3-5 years mechanical experience required.
  • Ability to reason through and plan work details and procedures to obtain desired results.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply or divide two-digit numbers.
  • Must be able to stoop for extended periods and routinely move from kneeling to standing positions.
  • Must be able to perform overhead work for extended periods.
  • Must be able to safely lift up to 51 lbs. regularly and safely lift up to 85 lbs. occasionally from the ground surface.  
  • Must be able to push/pull horizontally up to 140 lbs. of force. 
  • Must be able to work in extreme temperature environments. 
  • Must be able to physically enter confined space and work in enclosed environments. 

 

 

The hourly rate for this position is $26.85 per hour.
