Human Resources Specialist

Reporting to the HR Manager, the HR Specialist performs a variety of human resource administrative support duties. This role maintains the human resource database and all employee records and files. Handles payroll processing and tracks and reports payroll information. Completes assigned reporting functions involving attendance statistics. Assists the HR Manager with recruiting hourly roles.
Responsibilities:
This position will interact with all employees including the Red Deer management team and hourly employees, corporate Human Resources and Payroll, and customers and vendors. The impact of this position on the business is very important as it ensures that all individuals are treated in a professional and courteous manner. This individual must exercise independent judgement and be capable of making sound decisions.
Manages payroll records for hourly employees according to provincial and federal regulations. Processes premium pay for eligible salaried employees. Ensures that payroll functions are performed in accordance with established policies and procedures. Audits and prepares daily hours worked reports. Serves as a first point of contact for payroll.
- Under the guidance of the HR Manager, manages the recruitment process for hourly employees, including scheduling on-site interviews. Upon job offer, coordinates the pre-hire screening, including background checks, and medical and physical exams. Assists the HR Manager with managing the new hire process. Maintains records of new hires, transfers, terminations, changes in job classifications in PeopleSoft and LCA. Assists with the preparation of promotional materials for career fairs and other sourcing events.
- Tracks the attendance of hourly employees and generates and distributes monthly reports to managers for review and disciplinary actions if applicable. Communicates all hourly attendance occurrences. Manages the vacation, sick, and personal time tracking sheet. Tracks and maintains STD records and assists employees with the filing of a new claim. Serves as the first point of contact for leaves of absence inquiries from hourly employees.
- Ensures all human resource files and records are maintained and properly filed. Coordinates the logistics for training and development of employees. Assists the HR Manager with various research projects and/or special projects. Assists with inclusion, employee engagement, and related activities.
Coordinates facility events, including retirement and holiday parties, etc. Sources and manages vendors and ensure efficient execution of events.
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience required (including certifications):
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration/Organizational Behavior/ Human Resources or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency or the ability to become proficient in the following:
- MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
- Human Resources Information Systems;
- Applicant tracking systems;
- LCA
- SharePoint
