Sr. Employment Law and Compliance Specialist

This position will assist the Associate General Counsel – Labor & Employment and Compliance (“AGC”) to coordinate elements of GATX’s corporate compliance program, including i) development and administration of annual compliance training curriculum and compliance awareness messaging, and ii) assist with ethics and compliance investigations and reporting. In addition, this position will assist the AGC with labor and employment compliance across North America. This is a hybrid position that will report to the AGC.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the AGC and the Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) in the ongoing management and/or enhancement of GATX’s corporate compliance training and awareness program. This entails working with GATX’s business partners to develop or select compliance training content relevant to our business, oversee Learning Management System (LMS) administration and support compliance awareness messaging. Keep abreast of industry issues and ethics and compliance developments to assist in continuous improvement of our practices and procedures.
- Assist the AGC and CCO in overseeing the GATX Ethics & Compliance Portal hotline administration, including tracking of calls and quarterly testing and regular coordination with the third-party hotline provider. This role will include supporting the AGC and CCO with ethics and compliance investigations in accordance with our Global Investigations Policy. Ensure investigation records are complete and properly maintained, including records of investigation steps taken and conclusions reached, as well as any action items and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist the AGC in addressing labor and employment legal matters, including relevant policy updates consistent with statutory and regulatory changes across North America. Coordinate with Human Resource managers and other business partners, as necessary, to support compliance with HR, Compliance and employee training requirements.
- Assist the AGC in employment-related matters in ensuring that appropriate legal holds of documents are placed and maintained. Assemble and transmit documents in response to subpoenas, document discovery requests and other employment litigation-related matters.
Qualifications:
- 4+ years applicable experience (minimum) as a labor/employment law and compliance professional, ideally for a publicly traded, multi-national company.
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Employment Law Compliance experience is preferred.
- Must possess the highest professional and personal standards, unquestioned integrity, and business ethics.
- Knowledge of legal concepts, terminology, principles, practices and research techniques in the areas of labor/employment law and corporate compliance.
- Experience with labor and employment matters and ethics and compliance investigations.
- Proficiency in various web-based software applications, including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.
- Strong analytical and project management skills, highly organized.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage and collaborate across functions and teams in the organization.
- Ability to work on confidential matters with independent judgment.
Other:
- Minimal travel: approximately 1 to 2 trips annually, including domestic and international locations.
- Hybrid work model - 60% of working days in the Chicago office, the remainder from home (remote).
Salary range:
As of the post date, the salary range for this position is:111800.00 USD - 144000.00 USD
This role may be eligible to participate in the Company’s short-term incentive plan, the details of which will be provided to the applicant upon hire.
