Pressure differential covered hoppers (PDs) are primarily used with an interior food-grade lining to ship light, dry commodities. Standard discharge piping is aluminum or steel, allowing for discharge on either side of the car. The cars are discharged by pumping air into the car to create interior pressure and “fluidize” the commodity.
