Position Purpose

The Maintenance Expert is responsible for scheduling all repair cars into and out of the facility, as well as the management and authorization of required repairs to GATX Railcars in the service center. Other principal duties include managing all activities related to the Mobile Repair Unit (MRU), serving as a backup for Payroll processing and supporting Indirect Spending for the facility. The person in this role needs to be able to work in an environment of short-term deadlines and changing priorities, which will be required in order to appropriately address maintenance and customer issues.

This position will interact with all levels of management within GATX corporate structure, customers, account managers and operations management. The person in this position must be able to work effectively with both the service facility personnel and the senior management of GATX. This person will have authority to make decisions regarding the appropriateness and cost of repairs and will have decision-making authority within pre-defined guidelines of GATX and regulatory requirements.

1.     Repair Scheduling - Main Shop

 

  • Authorize repairs to cars and monitor to ensure that required maintenance activity is appropriate and the cost of said repairs is within predefined guidelines of GATX and regulatory requirements; (monitor tasks from pre and post authorization up to outbound)
  • Review all BRC’s, NITL and time standards to ensure that required repairs are being performed to fulfill shopping reasons and customer requirements, coding is appropriate and time standards are accurately depict actual work requirements.
  • Develop and maintain PODs, assess individual labor requirements for each repair unit, projecting manning requirements for work centers and formulates a production cycle for each.

2.     Managing MRU activities

 

·         Create MMS Estimates from QF-1108 Work order.

·         Create car files and organize for easy retrieval.

·         Finalize car in MMS.

·         Update and download information into GATX, Customer and Regulatory systems, e.g. Railinc, TCID, Umler, Component Identification, MIS, ECM, Incident Database, etc.

·         Collect, assist, and bill the customer or GATX for the cost of materials used, cost of sending our MRU employees to the customer location.

·         Close the request after payment is received from the customer or if the cost is absorbed by GATX.

·         Audit system data entry and communicate any errors to team.

·         Generate reports that monitor and track key performance indicators.

3.     Payroll Back-up and Other Office Management Duties

 

  • Serve as a back-up Payroll processing:  

o    Audit daily employees worked hours and absences in LCA.

o    Validate that the hours entered match the employees’ ins and outs.

o    Transmit Payroll to our corporate office every 2 weeks for payroll processing.

 

  • Manage Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable activities for non-productive items:
    • Assist with ordering non-productive items.
    • Record goods receipts for incoming indirect items in SAP.
    • Provide data entry for annual inventory and assist with identifying variances.
    • Assist with and track invoices requiring payment.
    • Assist the corporate Accounts Receivable to assure timely and accurate billing.
  • Assist with special projects as required.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience Required (including certifications):

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of five (5) years of dealing with railcar technical issues
  • Extensive technical and fleet rail car knowledge
  • Extensive FRA, AR and GATX specifications knowledge
  • Strong attention to details and deadlines
  • Great communication skills over the phone, in person and in writing
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative to resolve problems.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to learn GATX`s systems (SAP, MMS, SEM, ect.).
  • Ongoing training combining both online and offsite resources will be required.
