About GATX Corporation

GATX Corporation
GATX Corporation, founded in 1898, is the leading global railcar lessor. We strive to be recognized as the finest railcar leasing company in the world by our customers, our shareholders, our employees, and the communities where we operate. We own railcar fleets in North America, Europe, and Asia. In addition, we operate the largest fleet of US-flagged vessels on the Great Lakes and own and manage other long-lived, widely-used assets. We operate through four business segments: Rail North America, Rail International, American Steamship Company (“ASC”), and Portfolio Management.

Rail North America
We are the leader in railcar leasing, serving the North American rail market with a fleet of more than 122,000 railcars.  The Locomotive Group has a fleet of more than 600 four-axle locomotives on lease to railroads and industrial users.  Rail North America also owns an extensive network of maintenance facilities.
Rail International
Rail International is comprised of GATX Rail Europe (“GRE”) and wholly owned railcar leasing businesses in India (“Rail India”) and Russia ("Rail Russia"). GRE leases more than 23,000 railcars, predominantly tank cars, to customers throughout Europe. Rail India began operations in 2012 as the first company registered to lease railcars under the Indian Railways Wagon Leasing Scheme. In 2016, Rail India focused on pursuing investment opportunities in new and existing flat wagons, and developing relationships with customers, suppliers and the Indian Railways. GATX Russia established a wholly owned subsidiary in 2012 and owns a small fleet of freight cars.
American Steamship Company (“ASC”)
ASC operates the largest, state-of-the art fleet of US-flagged vessels on the Great Lakes and strives to attain the highest levels of delivery efficiency, safety and environmental stewardship. ASC provides waterborne transportation of dry bulk commodities such as iron ore, coal, limestone aggregates, and metallurgical limestone. ASC, which became a part of GATX in 1973, has been moving vital cargo across the Great Lakes for more than a century.
Portfolio Management
