The 2nd Shift Supervisor is responsible for leading/directing railcar production for all departments on 2nd Shift for the Colton Service Center. This role is accountable for leadership of skilled labor employees including all aspects of safety, quality, production and cost. Ensures the highest quality work in the most efficient and cost effective manner possible.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes and supervises shift production in accordance with priority goals and availability of resources to ensure adequate and timely down stream flow.
  • Mentors others to ensure safe work environment.
  • Performs audits to ensure high quality repairs.
  • Accountable for production
  • Communicates work area status/activities to the Production Manager.
  • Communicates with downstream departments to facilitate car flow.
  • Uses technical experience, expertise and problem solving ability to achieve and maintain a quality repair.
  • Maintains an effective workforce by training, counseling and motivating workers.
  • Ensures that all necessary administrative work is complete and accurate, including Shop Portal, Schedule Tool, POD Accuracy.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a fast-paced production environment
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Association of American Railroads (AAR) and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) rules and regulations.
  • Ability to lead a versatile team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, in English.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Other:

  • Must be able to stoop for extended periods and routinely move from kneeling to standing positions
  • Must be able to perform overhead work for extended periods
  • Must be able to lift (vertically) up to 85 pounds from the ground surface
  • Must be able to push / pull (horizontally) up to 140 pounds
  • Must be able to climb ladders and perform work at elevated heights
  • Must be able to work in extreme temperature environments
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate, hearing protection must be worn.
  • Must be able to physically enter confined space (rail car manways as small as 18” in diameter) and work in enclosed environments
  • Must be able to sit/work in front of a computer for extended periods of time

 

 

As of June 11, 2024, the salary range for this position is $67,000 to $87,000. This range for this position is a reasonable estimate and takes into account several factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to geographic location, skill set, experience, education, training, internal equity and other business needs.
